At least five people were killed and five others injured in a gas station explosion in Ukraine's northern Kiev region on Tuesday.

According to the State Service for Emergencies, the blast occurred at around 8:40 a.m. local time (0640 GMT) at a gas station near Pereyaslav-Khmelnytsky town, triggering a huge fire.

Four people were found dead at the scene, while a young woman died in a hospital.

The injured were taken to a nearby hospital and their condition remained unknown.

Investigators blamed the accident on improper conception of the gas station project and violation of safety rules.
