33 Injured in Tour Bus Crash at Pong Toll Plaza, Thailand, January 2, 2025
A tour bus carrying Russian tourists crashed into a booth, a barrier and a Toyota Fortuner at Pong Toll Plaza near Pattaya, Thailand, on January 2, 2025, injuring 33 people, six seriously. The crash happened at about 6:22 p.m. No deaths were reported. The Kim Ho Tour bus was carrying 42 people, including the driver, from Koh Samet to Pattaya. Thirty bus passengers and three occupants of the Fortuner were injured. Rescuers evacuated passengers after fuel leaked from the bus, provided first aid and took the injured to local hospitals. Highway security officer Addy Yoosamran said the Fortuner was slowing for the toll booth when the bus abruptly changed lanes at high speed and lost control. Police said preliminary findings suggested brake failure may have contributed. The driver was identified as Sayan Kumpitak, 74. Overhead CCTV shows the bus swerving across the toll lanes and striking the booths, throwing up a cloud of dust and debris. |
