A detrimental road may have been the cause of the horrific accident on July 25 in the Komsomolsky District, which killed 3 people.

This is supported by video footage of the accident.

Near the village of Afanasyevo, a Volkswagen Passat veered into oncoming traffic and collided with a Nissan Tiida.

The impact was so forceful that the Nissan was thrown into a ditch. The victims of the tragedy were both drivers and the Nissan's young passenger.

The 51-year-old passenger of the Volkswagen remains in the hospital with serious injuries.

Dashcam footage clearly shows the Volkswagen's right rear wheel hitting a large pothole on the side of the road, after which the car abruptly veers into oncoming traffic.

An investigation is underway to determine all the circumstances.

Hm... freeze-frame shows a clear 'divot' in the asphalt along the right-edge white line in the vid... but maybe it didn't collapse into the hole visible in the still pic, until after the accident? And it feels like it was the right front, not right rear, that hit it.

At least this keeps everyone (?) from being sent to Ukraine.
