17 Injured when Panicking Motorist Stikes Celebrating Football Fans
The driver who drove into a crowd in Mexico, on Wednesday, was arrested at the scene and placed under police guard at a hospital. The incident occurred while a large crowd of football fans was celebrating the Mexican national team's 3-0 World Cup victory over Czechia. The driver's black sedan became surrounded by a dense crowd of celebrating fans blocking the roadway. Eyewitness reports and social media videos show members of the crowd striking and shaking the vehicle. The driver panicked because his family was inside the car and suddenly accelerated through the crowd to escape, striking multiple pedestrians before crashing into roadside bollards. A total of 17 people were injured, including the driver. One victim remains in critical condition. Following the crash, angry bystanders pulled the driver from the car and assaulted him before police intervened. The State Attorney General's Office has launched a formal criminal investigation. The driver remains hospitalized under police custody and will be handed over to the Public Prosecutor's Office to determine his legal status as soon as his medical condition permits. |
