A man died after sustaining fatal injuries in an industrial explosion at Sterecycle, a Rotherham-based waste business.
He has been named as 42-year-old Michael Whinfrey, from Rotherham.
Emergency services were called to the facility on Tuesday (11 January) after a refuse incinerator exploded, creating a hole in the side of the factory and causing damage to cars parked across the road.
Peter Lindon Davis, a 51-year-old man from Barnsley, was also injured, receiving serious injuries to the head and body.
The waste treatment facility will remain closed while the police as the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and police conduct their investigations into the cause of explosion.
Founded in 2003, Sterecycle is described as a clean energy company that uses the autoclaving method to sterilise domestic and commercial waste by subjecting it to high pressure saturated steam at high temperatures.
The Rotherham plant has been operational since August 2008 and is the world’s first large scale refuse autoclaving facility.
