1 Dead when Drunk Driver Plunges Off a Bridge Down on a Motorway
A drunk motorist plunges off a bridge and lands his car upside down on a motorway, killing himself and seriously injuring his girlfriend. The victims were travelling at speed in the early hours of the morning, having apparently been out for a night of heavy drinking. Traffic cameras in the city of Mudanjiang, in north-eastern China's Heilongjiang Province, show the motorist driving straight off the bridge, crashing through the concrete barrier and falling about 16 feet onto the road below completely destroying the bumper and scattering debris across the road, which was relatively empty at the time of the crash. Dashcam video and mobile phone footage from the scene show passers-by surrounding the accident site, where the vehicle remained upside-down until authorities arrived. Police officers and local firefighters shifted the vehicle onto its side and managed to free both driver and passenger from the mangled metal.* But the man was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics, while his girlfriend was rushed to hospital and is still in intensive care. Mudanjiang police, who are now investigating the case, are treating the crash as an accident and have not detained anyone in connection with the fatal incident. The authorities have also yet to announce the driver's blood alcohol level, though they have confirmed reports about him being heavily intoxicated at the time. |

The driver must not have been wearing a seat belt. The roof didn't appear to have collapsed, leaving the passenger compartment mostly intact. Drunk driving, fail. No seat belt, double-fail. |

Re: 1 Dead when Drunk Driver Plunges Off a Bridge Down on a Motorway
I just don't have it in me to feel sorry for a drunk driver when they get killed as a result of drinking and driving. I might occasionally feel bad for a passenger if they didn't know the driver was hammered, but that is almost always not the case.
