Alam Khan, who was captured on video performing foolhardy stunts on a local train leading to his fall, will now convince others not to do the same
The railways has found the face of its anti-stunt drive. It belongs to a 17-year-old student who, exactly a week ago, fell off a running train after being struck smack in the head while he was swinging by the door handle. Alam Khan's amateurish bravado came after high noon last Sunday aboard a local heading to Churchgate and was captured on a cell phone video, which rapidly went viral. In the recording, the train's public announcement system can be heard cautioning commuters against careless travel -an offence punishable by law -at the very moment the adolescent flies off the footboard after being hit.
After Mirror published grabs from the AV yesterday, the Government Railway Police mounted a search and traced the youth by nightfall. He resides at Navghar Road, Bhayandar East, and studies at Mother Mary Junior College in the suburb.
The decision to turn Khan into a caveat for all the gadabouts who unthinkingly pull such capers was arrived at after he showed profuse remorse for his act and swore never to endanger his life like this.
GRP deputy commissioner of police Deepak Devraj told Mirror, “We want to use Alam Khan for our campaign to raise awareness against such perilous stunts and risky ways of commuting such as on the rooftop."
On the afternoon of October 30, Khan boarded a Churchgate local with some of his friends to make his way to Fashion Street to do some shopping. His exploit, which it later emerged had ended in a hairline fracture to his skull, was filmed between Charni Road and Marine Lines.
Senior inspector S Shivarkar of Churchgate GRP, who was leading the search for the boy, said they took his snapshot from the widely circulated video and tried to look for a match in their records. When that proved to be a dead end, they used an image matching programme and ran a search on Facebook. The closest resemblance was with one Alam Khan. “I saw that this Alam Khan, coincidentally, was also listed as a friend of some friends. So we enquired of one of these common Facebook friends and got his phone number and address," said senior inspector Shivarkar, who also resides in Bhayandar.

When the police called up Khan's residence, his mother, Shaheen answered. She promptly put her son on line since the cops were conversing in English and her son speaks the language.It didn't take much for the cops to coax a confession out of Khan and establish that he was indeed their `stuntman'.
“We registered a case against Khan under sections 110 and 117 of the Maharashtra Police Act and 156 of the Indian Railway Act," said SI Shivarkar.
