If you're wondering what rot smells like, just buy some eggs and let them rot, or smell your own farts. It smells like that, except strong enough to make you gag. Sometimes strong enough to actually poison you. Rot from a pimple is whiteish to yellow because its full of dead white cells. But proper "dead" rot starts as bright green and looks like toothpaste, then liquifies to bright brown liquid, eventually turning dark brown to even black liquid.

Used to work in an abattoir and since the rotting process starts immediatly when cells stop getting oxygen, sometimes the pigs in the freezer were hiding some nasty surprises.
