A 25-year-old man, Dylan B., was returning home from a learning centre, where he was studying to become a maths teacher, when he was struck and killed by a police vehicle, which was responding to reports of a confrontation, involving knives, between several people at a railway station.

Two patrol cars went to respond to the scene. Security camera footage shows the driver of one of them performing an overtaking manoeuvre but easily managing to avoid traffic.

However, the driver of the trailing police vehicle - 29-year-old sergeant M.I.A. - had veered into the opposite lane to overtake a pick-up truck when she crashed head-on into Dylan. M. stopped the vehicle and attempted to assist Dylan, but he had died at the scene.

M. has been charged with negligent homicide, but has not been detained nor questioned by the prosecutor. Sources involved in the case noted that whether M.'s overtaking manoeuvre was "justified" remains under investigation.
