The whole episode is an object lesson in the book of Social Darwinism. The point is, of course, that people this stupid are not likely to make a net positive contribution to either society or to the gene pool. The Social Darwinist position is real hard nosed. One SD acquaintance of mine argues against middle school crossing guards on the above grounds - if they don't know how to cross the street safely by that age . . .
