Re: Worker Fried When Scaffold Hits Live Wire

So disturbing. Is there no safe way to remove him off of it? Before he actually begins to burn burn.
Turn off the electricity, or push the body/scaffold away with a strong piece of wood.

Re: Worker Fried When Scaffold Hits Live Wire

LOL. first video looks like people appeared on the scene, attracted by the smell of bbq, and after they arrived and realized it was just another guy getting electrocuted to death they went back to their business.

yea, just leave him there to burn, not like youre in a shitty gas station or something that could blow up with one wild spark
So should they have thrown a bucket of water over him to put him out?

eh, bucket of water seems a little too big brained. I would have pushed him off the scaffolding with a stick

Re: Worker Fried When Scaffold Hits Live Wire

I don't think so. I've heard that a person is conductive while frying and can be passed to another person who touches them also can dry. That is, unless they are removing him with something that lacks conductivity.
I once used a 2x4 to push a guy off a box. He'd made contact with the bus bars and he was immediately stuck. One way to do it is to do a flying judo kick if possible, but honestly the only safe way would be to shut the power down. Maybe someone could have rammed it off the wire with one of their vehicles, but even then they run the risk of making contact with their truck and getting fried themselves. I fucking hate getting shocked.

Re: Worker Fried When Scaffold Hits Live Wire

LOL, that's what I was thinking also. I know nothing about high voltage lines or gas stations, but it seems like high voltage wires really close to gas pumps. Would that violate ISO 9001, DIN or some electric code in a first world country?
Years ago I worked for the federal government. We had "crispy critter" cases where civilians or independent contractors got zapped working around airport high voltage. One comes to mind: at National Airport (I will never, ever use the name of Regan, who destroyed federal unions), there was a contract for lighting repairs out over the river approach, from the south north to the runway. Distance was several miles from the Control Tower to the approach lights. Someone at the tower shut off the power to the approach lights for the work, and left for lunch. The next guy into the Tower saw the big switch OFF, and thought it should be ON. So turned it ON, and the contractor out on the lighting pier over the water instantly turned into a piece of burned toast .... that voltage and amps were far higher than what you normally see around a city street like the gas station in the above video.

FAA gross negligence for sure, but the contractor's carrier had to eat it because of the hold harmless indemnity clause that is in EVERY govt contract for services like maintenance.

So many stories ... I wish I had saved all the horrible photos I saw in my work .. and could post here!

Not really. I though I might push the scaffold away from the wires with my car, but the problem is you don't know how high the voltage is on those lines up there, and that is what appears on the scaffold. Electricity will arc across on inch of dry air per 10,000 volts, and it could be plenty high enough to arc from my car to ground. If you had a fiberglass vaulting pole, you might get away with it, or if you had enough dry rope so two of you could run it around the scaffold and pull it away like that. But Mr. Crispy there was already fucked when the video started.

The trouble with high voltage is it can make materials we would consider "non conductive" to conduct well enough to cause enough current to flow and kill you. A big 2x4 might be OK if it were 240v, IE household mains, but 10kV, maybe not, especially if the wood is green or damp.
