He couldn't smell the fumes from the remaining fuel in the tank? I think, if it were me working in Third World conditions, I would have at least tied a lit road flare to a long string and pulled it across the opening of the tank until it dropped in. If that didn't cause an explosion or fire, then I would go in. |
