The issue is that many dog owners are not qualified to own any dog at all- but pitbulls are uniquely gifted at mauling. Dachshunds and chihuahuas are prone to biting all the time- but have a small bite radius and tiny ineffectual teeth. Pitbulls, on the other hand, were selectively bred to have a huge bite radius, to bite deeply and to thrash when they attack. Pitbulls don't really bite or attack that much more than other dogs, depending on the community- but their attacks are 10 times worse than almost any other dog breed when they DO attack. That's the problem with Pits- they can be really wonderful dogs- but when they turn bad they can kill more effectively than almost any dog breed. They are 'extremist' dogs, in my opinion- when they love you, they'll practically lick you to death and will love you more fervently than any dog prior. When they hate- well, we gets vids like this one. |
