An execution is something done by the government of a state, following a trial and a sentence. While what we've seen here is the unlawful and unjustified killing of one person by another, i.e. murder.

Murder: The act of killing a person by a civilian (or "element" )

Execution: The act of killing a person by an officer or agent assigned to the task by a government entity.

Regardless of the method used: A life is taken
