Woman Killed & Pregnant Female Injured from Shots by Police at Protest
Elderly woman killed and pregnant female injured form shots by police at nearby protest. 15/06/2023, Rio, Brazil- An elderly woman was killed and a 30-year-old woman, eight months pregnant, was injured by shrapnel, on Thursday (15), in Morro do Turano, in Rio Comprido, North Zone of Rio. The victims were on Rua Joaquim Pizarro, one of the access roads to the community, when they were hit. According to reports from residents, the shots would have come from military police. A protest blocked at least two streets in the region. The case will be investigated by the PM's internal affairs. The victim was identified as S.d.S.N., 69 years old. She was even rescued and taken to the Souza Aguiar Municipal Hospital, in downtown Rio, but could not resist her injuries. The pregnant Késsia da Silva was hit by shrapnel and sent to the same unit, where she is still being monitored. Her and the baby's health status is stable, according to the Municipal Health Department (SMS). |
