Woman Killed, 2 Injured when Temple Caved in
A woman devotee was killed and 2 others were seriously injured when a portion of concrete Mandapam (pillared outdoor hall) of ancient Arulmigu Subramaniya Swamy Temple, collapsed Today. According to preliminary reports, the decades-old mandapam near the famous Valli Cave, which was in dilapidated condition, with cracks developing and plaster chipping off, caved in this noon. The personnel of Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services Department rushed to the site and retrieved the body of woman and rescued the 2 injured people from the debris. Senior police and Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowment officials supervised the rescue operation. Soon after the incident, the temple was closed for public for more than one hour as the priests performed special yagnams to cleanse the temple complex. |
