While working at a nursing home I got to know a WWII vet pretty well. One night he sat up in his bed and told me he felt dizzy. I asked if he was okay but he didn’t say anything. He grabbed the collar of my shirt, pulled me toward him, looking me right in the eyes, and started dying. I tried to lay him back down but as I was holding him he started agonal breathing. His heart had just shut off completely. It was surreal. I wasn’t ready for it, despite being addicted to gore since the rotten.com days. |

I used to work in hospice care. I can't count have many people I have seen go through the dying process. The experiences taught me a lot about dying. It was a privilege to witness the dying process up until the last breath.  |

Since working with dying patients and being with them at the moment of death I’m not afraid of death, just the way it comes! It’s a privilege to hold someone’s hand as they die.
