however, it is fascinating how pain receptors and the brain act/react/interact. it's clearly more painful when she witnesses what's happening and also while being cut. once severed, perhaps the absence of the nerve endings is what lessens the pain, in addition to the body being flooded by whatever chemicals it can adrenalise.
