Had the same experience. No one died in that wreck, though a few years later a girl burned to death in her car on the same stretch of road. It burned so hot that the license plate and VIN melted off the car and they could only ID her through dental records. Still a scorch mark on the shoulder there.

I'd really like to think I would help if I came across a situation like that. But having been close to a burning car in a car park I remember how intense the heat was. (No one was in the car, or hurt at the time). I seriously doubt that there was anything that could have been done to save her, without incurring serious burns to oneself. She was already dying from that intense burning she'd already suffered. Poor woman died in agony and those cries from her as she's dying would live with me forever, but I doubt I would have been able to help. Not even to whack her over the head to put her out of misery. Hope I never come across something like this.  |

I would have pissed on a towel or sweater and would have thrown it over her and tried pull her out just to save her but people are assholes!!!

Hey I hear all the shout outs about trying to rescue her and man what an awful situation but in reality there is no way you are getting near that car with that intensity. No fucking way. The bystanders could have roasted marsh mallows from where they are standing. As horrible as it was to see that she was a goner. If you have your own wife an kids and the gas tank is about to explode..will you take the chance? No good being a dead hero. |

Only thing that can be done quickly enough in that situation is maybe shoot her in the head. Then again.. is mercy killing a crime? |
