Big pigs aren’t easy to kill, in the sense that other animals are. They have very tough/thick skin and even with a gun, it is iffy. If you are on the ground and you mess up on your shot/strike, you can easily be killed by an angry, injured boar.

What he's trying to say is if someone there had a firearm, tat person could have shot the wild boar before it seriously injured or killed someone.
