Re: Water Rescue Ends Badly

I never would have thought an irrigation canal would be dangerous. The surface always looks so calm.

Shitter. That last guy that tried to help could have stopped himself but threw himself for one last try at the last minute.

What i find outstanding is the fact the camera person filmed it all, even watched them drowning to catch it all for us. Such a hero !!!

Re: Water Rescue Ends Badly

What are the "rolling waves" for though? It seems really unsafe.
It’s a “vortex” similar to an “eddy”.
In fluid dynamics, an eddy is the swirling of a fluid and the reverse current created when the fluid is in a turbulent flow regime. The moving fluid creates a space devoid of downstream-flowing fluid on the downstream side of the object. Fluid behind the obstacle flows into the void creating a swirl of fluid on each edge of the obstacle, followed by a short reverse flow of fluid behind the obstacle flowing upstream, toward the back of the obstacle. This phenomenon is naturally observed behind large emergent rocks in swift-flowing rivers

Vortex is a region where the flow is spinning about an axis. Eddy is the swirling of a fluid, that creates a space devoid of downstream flowing fluid (like as you say behind an obstacle). In a vortex there is no void, but an area of lower pressure. In both cases there is backflow causing the fluid to rotate.

Excellent post by the way… you’re on another great roll today~ Thanks V1r!!
