Not really. Assuming they managed to cut both external carotid arteries, the sudden drop in blood pressure from the bleed out from his head would have rendered him unconscious within a few seconds; the internal carotids do not have enough blood flow to keep consciousness going, only the hind brain functions and brain stem that keep you breathing.

So as spectacular as the bleed out it and the choking on the blood is, the reality is this poor bastard probably blacked out after 4-5 seconds of the initial cut and didn't feel anything after that. It's a shitty and very thin silver lining to this whole situation, but a silver lining none the less...

He had his carotid artery cut clean, he would be unconscious in 10-20 seconds, he knew nothing of the beheading, and the death would have been relatively pain free
