Emotional or not, it was a very stupid decision, not worth forfeiting one's life. A little impulse control would've saved the day for this obstreperous chap, but I guess he just didn't have it in him.

Arbery's decision to go after the father was a split second emotional reaction that I don't think changes much whether or not he knows the police are coming.

The son was the shooter, the father was on the truck bed calling 911. According to the vid I posted, they had been chasing him for 4 minutes before the call to 911. If they told Arbery they called the cops, that certainly makes this ordeal more interesting.

According to the first surveillance video posted, there was a 911 call placed while he was still in the empty house, long before the chase began. Is that not true?

Either way, I'm not sure how much difference it makes. I don't know if them yelling "THE COPS ARE COMING, STOP RUNNING" vs "HEY STOP WE WANT TO TALK TO YOU" is any different.

The only thing that makes a difference IMO is if there's a direct threat like if they were screaming "WE GON' SHOOT YO' ASS BOY".

There isn't enough audio on the shooting footage and Aubery is dead so unfortunately we won't have any good evidence of what was said, unless they were on the phone with 911 at the time.

So update to my above post:

There were two 911 calls, one while Aubery was still in the house, and another during the chase. In the second one you can hear them say "Stop" several times before the call goes silent.

Right, but the reason I brought that up was that I was thinking that the reasonable thing for Arbery to have done—if they did indeed tell him the police were on the way—would've been for him not to attack and physically assault the guy with the long gun. But what is normal if someone is really enraged and already that the finest of characters? Based on my observation, I'm not 100% certain that he was trying to get the gun, but was rather only interested in punching the guy in the face and getting into a fist fight. I will watch the video again more carefully to try to ascertain his intent in the physical altercation. But even if that were the case, during those heated critical seconds, it would have been a hell of a burden for the shooter to hold off from firing—rather than acting on-impulse n self defense.

I still feel like the evidence points to self defense for Arbery. The two vehicles rounded him up in a coordinated manner, but I dont think they planned it to turn into a lynching anymore. Aggravated assault and negligent homicide seem the best fit based on the info we have now.

Arbery was trying to get away from both vehicles for several minutes. He was only a couple miles from home. Even if he was casing the place, he didn't break any Georgian laws that day that would even warrant a citizen's arrest. Not to mention, other people were caught on camera inside the same house and nothing was ever stolen or damaged.

They were legally allowed to have their guns, and allowed to be suspicious, but they had no right to stop him in the way they did. They could have just followed him in their vehicles until the police showed up.

Arbery wasn't looking for a fight, that much is clear.

I don't know how you can say this; he charged and swung on a dude holding a shotgun.

You can make a case either way all day, but to say this is "clear" is kind of silly, IMO.

Whenever this kind of things happens, everyone seems to pick one side that they decide can be excused for all escalations, and any escalations by the other side are unwarranted and deserve death or imprisonment. And it's never that clear.
