Re: Vid.of Offcr-involved Shot of Man Hoisting an Airsoft Rifle in Grass Valley, CA

i just dont understand why dont they just just him in the leg? and yes he should have just dropped it but killing him was not necessary.
The cops talked a lot longer than you or I would have if he pointed a gun at you and you were already aiming at him. A private citizen who emptied the magazine into his liver in that circumstance would not even be charged in many states because you have the right to kill someone who is trying to kill you. A private citizen would have had no call to say "Drop the gun" or anything else. The cops did well this time, and I am a cop watchdog type.

Also, what makes you think 1. that shooting him in the leg would have had the desired effect? 2. that you can reliably place a bullet that accurately in a live target? 3. that being shot in the leg is surely any less deadly than being shot somewhere else? 4. that you know how many shots in the leg to administer? 5. that the bullet would not go through and hit an unintended target? 6. that you have a right to an opinion about gunfights, not ever having held a firearm or confronted a criminal? No offense.

Why did they approach someone who is armed? Why did they open fire after it was clear that it was a BB gun? Sloppy work from both parties. Kid should have just dropped it and the police shouldnt have opened fire esspecially not after he fires it and all you hear is bubble wrap pop.

Flid. Why shoot unless its shoot to kill . If there was no need for lethal force then no need to shoot dumbass.

This hillbilly mofo got what he did because he was too stupid to understand orders and the face that its only right to check some asshole in your neighbourhood wandering round with a rifle on their shoulder. Dipshit all he had to do was put it on the floor and clear any enquiries by the cops. They would have let him go home to his backyard bbing.
This fuck wanted out.

Re: Vid.of Offcr-involved Shot of Man Hoisting an Airsoft Rifle in Grass Valley, CA

Waaaay too long to fire there! That definitely could've cost an officer there lives! And no excuse, particularly with a scope trained on him! Incidentally, having to wait before a perp "points" their weapon at you before engaging deadly force is ridiculous! Way too many officers die on account of that! In my opinion, if the bad guy is holding a weapon, and doesn't drop it, fire away! Period!

If you are under the impression that someone is a lethal threat to you with a firearm, you don't "shoot them in the leg", as there is no reason to think that will stop the threat. Why would you assume that shooting someone in a limb that has nothing to do with them holding the weapon would make him drop the weapon? Soldiers, for instance, get shot all the time, and don't drop their weapons, instead they typically fire back, and while you're aiming for his leg, he's aiming for your face and chest....

They approached him because that's how you take control of a dangerous person, you have to eventually move on him. And it was never "clear" that it was a BB gun, should they have taken his word for it? This looks like a textbook "Suicide by Cop", IMO. The guy knew damn well he couldn't hurt them, and had no intention of doing so, but he also knew that they had no way of knowing his intentions, and he knew they'd have to react like that.

Or he was just a dumbass.

If you got something that looks like a gun expect to be shot. Simple.
