Re: USS Akron: 05/11/1932 (My Introduction To Reality From My Great Grandfather)
I remember seeing that decades ago and thinking of that last couple of seconds the guys had to make the decision: hang on, or drop, then it was too late. Horrifying. |

Re: USS Akron: 05/11/1932 (My Introduction To Reality From My Great Grandfather)
the city of akron is evil. i think that is where the halfbuilt thing called rex's erection was back in the mid 70's or so. rex humbard monument he never finished that i know of. kent state where the 4 were killed wasn't all that far from akron and bath township where jeffrey dahmer lived for a while is very near akron. ohio altogether sucks. but that has to be something to do with the weather in relation to chicago the windy city. interesting post. i am surprised i never heard about that one. spent my first 15 years in akron and the following three back and forth. maybe its because it isn't a good thing, sorta like how akron dropped the title "the rubber capital of the world" (firestone, goodyear, goodrich). buckeyes, and especially akronites are really into reputations and hiding and covering up the past that is less than something that makes them look good. at least they were that way. don't know how they are these days. |
