Agree. Primary counter attack in this situation is a kick. Keeps more distance between you and the threat vs using your fists. A hit to the balls is an instant show stopper. A shot to the leg is very painful if delivered properly and also hinders your opponent's pursuit if it develops into a turn and run scenario.

Best way to ensure you go home and the threat doesn't is to carry, which I do, everywhere. I don't care if it's a 5 minute run to pick up a pizza, I'm prepared.
