Police bodycam footage has been released to the public showing the intense moments before former Huntsville police officer William Darby shot and killed Jeffery Parker

Darby was convicted in May of murder in the 2018 fatal shooting of Parker, a man who told police he was suicidal and held a gun to his own head. Darby ran into the house and shot him.

This is what police accountability should look like. Huntsville (AL) police officer Genisha Pegues, the senior officer on the scene, was already de-escalating a situation with a suicidal man who had a gun to his head. Officer William Ben Darby came onto the scene with a shotgun, interrupted the de-escalation process and fatally shot the suicidal man after he failed to drop the firearm still pointing to his own head. Based on the testimony of Pegues and the body-worn camera footage, the jury convicted Darby of murder and the judge sentenced him to 25 years in prison.
