The pair had been watched by surveillance teams and a helicopter with FLIR. Contacted the squad on the ground and told them that 2 armed guys on a bike are heading there way... Army got some time to set up a ambush and took em both out

It's not illegal to have an AK in the home of Afghans for bandits. It's a whole separate matter to be riding around a US/Nato patrol with it and a chest rig. Call it what you will, he came ready for a possible prolonged fight.
