Re: Ulrike Maier - Deadly Ski Crash

I keep trying to slow the video down, and pause it at the crash... But I can't see exactly what object she hits. It looks like a jutting rock and something else, but I'm not sure. I didn't see how exactly she was hit either, but at first glance it just looks like it should be a couple of broken bones.

How unlucky...

Re: Ulrike Maier - Deadly Ski Crash

I was 8 years old when I saw this on the news. Quite fucked up shit for a kid of that age to see. One of my cousins used to be a downhill skier at junior level and I was constantly afraid something like that would happen to her. She had an accident and luckily enough only broke her collar bone.

Re: Ulrike Maier - Deadly Ski Crash

She wiped out at the worst possible time. Looks like some object that should of been removed from the track before anyone ever raced on it. A stump or something.

Re: Ulrike Maier - Deadly Ski Crash

It would seem her vagina had some form of dick magnet. If you notice, her right leg seems to automatically spread wide and I think it's due to an opposite-pole magnet in some man's penis on the sidelines. There's no other reason her leg would spread open like that and at such a bad time too.
Oh her small 5ish year old daughter was in the crowd and she saw it happen.

Re: Ulrike Maier - Deadly Ski Crash

Ulrike Maier (22 October 1967 – 29 January 1994) was an Austrian alpine skier, two-time Super-G World Alpine Ski Champion.

Born in Rauris, Maier won the Super-G gold medal at the World Alpine Ski Championships in both 1989 and 1991. She also took home the giant slalom bronze medal in the 1991 event. She scored a total of 5 World Cup (2 Super-G, 3 Giant Slalom) race victories in her career.

On 29 January 1994 during a World Cup downhill race in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany, Maier crashed while skiing at 120 km/h down the slope and broke her neck. She died of her injuries shortly after being evacuated to the hospital in nearby Murnau, Germany, at age 26. She had thought to retire at the end of the 1993-1994 season. However, she was reconsidering her decision in the days before the fateful downhill, planning to continue until FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 1995 in Spain.

Initially it was claimed that her death was caused by hitting a wooden timing post. Based on that claim, Maier's fiance Hubert Schweighhofer criticised the organizers of the race and filed suit against them. However, several months later the court found that Maier actually did not hit the timing post with her head but probably broke her neck by crashing into a pile of snow on the border of the race course. The court did not find any negligence from the organizers and dismissed the suit.

Maier was survived by her daughter and was buried in her home village of Rauris, Austria.
