None of my family were held by the Nazi's that I know of. My grandfather fought ww2, but in the Pacific. As are most white people in America, I have German ancestors, so who knows, I may be related to a nazi. Anyway, I'm a big history buff. And ww2 is my favorite historical event. Maybe because it is the closest thing that's happened that is truly unbelievable. So many things in history are fascinating. But ww2 Wasn't that long ago. I mean, as a kid I would sit and listen to men talk who were there. Although I'm thankful I never witnessed it. Part of me wishes I did. And not just the death and battle. But I'd love to have seen the massive floatilas of Allied ships , and the hundreds of bombers flying overhead. And the D-day landings. That had to be something to see. |

Agreed. I am fascinated by everything about WW2. we have so much information about this war, so many details and witnesses stories ... videos, pictures, letters. All of this make it up by far the most fascinating event ever occurred. I saw documentary about D-day. Veterans were talking about how at some point you couldn’t see the sky because there were so many planes. When you look at it from out prospective , you want to be a part of it... but I’m sure it was terrifying for everyone .. I dunno if it’s true , but i herd that when first wave was almost wiped out by heavy fire, captains of battleships insisted direct order not to get close to the beach to safe the ships , so they did close in to support their guys with fire heil. That’s what I’m talking about, saving your brothers in arms by sacrificing and risking your own. |

I just returned from Kharkov in eastern Ukraine last week. I stayed for 7 days. The locals told me there were several battles in their city in 2014 but it is calm now. The trains no longer travel east of Kharkov so there is little travel to and fro. I met a girl there who told me that she hates russians with a vengeance so I thought it best to avoid the topic. On the other hand, Gorki park is filled with children on summer break and they all seemed happy and peaceful.

Where are you from? Been reading your comments here, seems like you’re a bit upset with Russia! Upset that you live in one of these shitholes in Eastern Europe which have been passed between Germany and Russia? That your country couldn’t stand against the soviet might? 90% of my family care from Russia. Hopefully they killed some of yours when they came to dominate your people!
