Re: Ukraine - Man Disappears Under Ice
Is that what you're supposed to do??! And all these years I thought that getting water in there could be dangerous to your intestinal health. Oh well.

Temporarily. And they speak Russian in Eastern Ukraine where they would welcome a reunion with Russia. Ukraine has been called "Little Russia" for ages.

Re: Ukraine - Man Disappears Under Ice
Not only Russians. It is a worldwide Orthodox custom, popular with Greek Orthodox and many others. The usual procedure (when there is open water instead of ice) is to toss a cross (made of wood so it floats) into the water and then a volunteer swimmer goes in and retrieves it. I've seen the custom performed in New York.

Re: Ukraine - Man Disappears Under Ice
As the other posters pointed out, that man slammed his face on the ice hard as he went in. I measured the length of ice opening on the final frames that show his head, compared to an unobstructed view. The measurements show he totally bashed his head, most likely an instant KO.
