Not suicide! She obviously knew the gate was down. Her body language in the video shows that she was actively controlling her iPod, probably had just muted it and heard the roar of the train for the first time. She had expected the train was coming from her right, which would have been the on the further track, and looked that way. When she saw no train from the right, she spun her head around to the left just in time to see the train bearing down on her from the left, on the track she was crossing. Poor girl had totally disabled the her ability to triangulate the train noise due to ear buds under a hoodie. Looks like a youthful "aw shit" moment that she couldn't sneak out of. I know I have made stupid judgement calls, especially as a youth, and only by fate was I able to escape some bonehead close calls and be here today to comment on it. |
