The teenager killed in an e-bike crash yesterday has been described as a "top, top lad" by those that knew him.

Devon S. was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision in Middleton, Rochdale in Greater Manchester shortly before 12pm yesterday morning.

Emergency services did what they could to revive him, but tragically he couldn't be saved. Greater Manchester Police said his family is now being supported by specialist officers.

Police have taken a 59-year-old male into custody, where he is being questioned on suspicion of murder.

Officers are working to establish the full circumstances of the incident and are investigating allegations of a theft in the events leading up to collision, GMP said. Another teenager has been arrested on suspicion of theft.

Detective Chief Inspector Christopher Dean, from GMP’s Rochdale district, said: “This terrible incident has seen the death of a teenage boy, and we are working hard to establish the full facts of this case, in what is the very early stages of an investigation.

“A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and will be questioned in due course, while officers are already in place to support the family of the boy who has died today.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) arrested a 59-year-old man, identified as Terrence King of Castlerrigg Drive, Middleton, who has been charged with Devon’s murder. King appeared at Manchester Magistrates’ Court on July 24, 2025, where he confirmed his name, date of birth, and address but was not required to enter a plea. He was remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court on July 28, 2025.

Another resident who said they knew of the teenager said: "He was a top, top lad. Lived on this estate all his life and a lot of people knew him.

"He was very respectable, obviously it's a horrible thing to happen to him and his family."
