"KAMPALA - Police on Wednesday, June 1, 2022, said they had impounded a truck registration UBK 994P that ran over a cyclist in Bwaise killing him on the spot and injuring the passenger.

Faridah Nampiima the Traffic and Safety Directorate Spokesperson said the vehicle was intercepted at Buloba on Monday and the driver detained before he was transferred back to Kawempe police which had jurisdiction over the matter.

“It was a hit and run fatal accident involving motor vehicle registration number UBK 994P and motorcycle registration number UDG 703Q and it happened at Bwaise roundabout at around 7:20am.

Both victims including the rider who died on the spot and the passenger who is in a critical condition have not yet been identified,” Nampiima said.

She noted that the police visited the scene and the body and the injured passenger were taken to Mulago.

She said the truck had been taken to the police yard pending Inspectorate of Vehicles inspection.

The viral video captured by the Police CCTV cameras shows the motorcycle rider with the passenger in front of the truck which runs over them and doesn’t stop but proceeds on."
