What difference does it make if he used it against the Kurds or the Iranians? Is it OK to give brutal dictators WMD's to use in wars they start against people we don't like? The point is he used it, we gave it to him, and after he used it on the Kurds we restored diplomatic relations with him soon afterwards..... Then we invaded to get the weapons WE GAVE HIM.
This is seriously fucked up on many levels.

You also need to realize that Iraq has borders made up arbitrarily by western colonists, and that the Kurds, Sunni and Shia don't give a shit about national unity or each other, and that Saddam being a Sunni could care less about Kurds.
It shouldn't surprise anybody that Saddam gassed them when given the chance, because thats how politics in 3rd world country's works.... The most brutal ruthless person gets to the top, and maintains that by being brutal.

Saddam was a cocksucker, but thats the only way the country could be held together.

It wasn't hundreds of villages either, I think it was 2 or 3 and it killed a few thousand people..... the current war has civilian deaths between 500k and a million...... food for thought.

This seems to be one simple fact that escapes everyone here.
Who created those psychos, politicians did. And why did they do that?
