Since I've been there and other places during conflict. The reporters made a very dumb choice to be around insurgents armed with weapons two blocks from US military personnel. Press are told to report their locations to militray so they don't get killed. These reporters didn't. The kids are used as shields by insurgents. It's common sense that if there's a gunfight in my backyard, I'm not bringing a camera and standing by the bad guys. I definately don't allow my kids to go help.

As for the kids; A very close friend of mine watched his fellow soldier run to the aid of a crying child in a raided building in Iraq, once he picked up said child an anti-personnel device exploded and killed three people in his squad. Children are pawns in this war.
