Re: Two Girls Stabbed Viciously, Rival Gang Retaliation
Economic factors can easily develop this sort of thing elsewhere, too, so the issue isn't really keeping anyone out (though, certainly, it isn't beneficial to add a significant number of people from any civilisation in which such behaviour has already developed and become a normal thing to do), but rather ensuring the levels of poverty and economic disparity elsewhere don't develop in affluent, developed countries, a goal towards which closing your borders would not contribute. Ability, production and income roughly follow a Pareto distribution in any well functioning economy, and in most economies this results in the taxes following the Pareto distribution, as well. Essentially, you'll want to see 10% of the population getting 50% of the income and carrying 50% of the total tax burden. That's roughly where fair and functional is at. Norway has the latter in order, not the former. USA has the former in order, not the latter. Brazil has 1% of the population with 50% of the income, and those for the most part aren't carrying their share of the tax burden, so it becomes an incredibly dysfunctional system from any sane economic point of view, with well known consequences. When the slope of the hill to climb to a higher socioeconomic status is too steep for young men playing by the rules, young men simply stop playing by the rules and switch to a game that will net them more for less, as any individually rational (caveats to rationality apply when it comes to tragedy of the commons, of course), non-docile person will do. If this development is met with escalating force by police, or by a situation in which Lord of the Flies style competition can flourish and still provide incentives, the violence and callousness will spiral out of control. Simple cause and effect, well studied, well understood, and not at all related to genes, rearing, culture or geography, though I suppose it's possible to make the argument that it's peripherally related to gender as it's young men who are, as a group, driven to succeed, accomplish and advance, and willing to pay the price (including loss of humanity, if we choose to view it in those terms), but that assertion is pointless if we're looking to address the issues, as the collective advancements this instinct has brought us is what keeps violence at bay in a larger perspective, and we're not really in a position to eliminate a gender or its most double-edged trait. The productive response isn't to close your border. The productive response is to ensure young men have a future if they work for it, realistically and not just on paper like the "pull yourself up by the bootstraps"-crowd tend to go with. Further, to ensure you invest in education and healthcare for everyone, and a rehabilitative justice system that leaves behind the punitive aspect for the benefit of as-yet unvictimised future victims, and for the rest of us. That solves the problem. Of course, building a wall is easier and feels like you're actually doing something, even though that something is flushing money down the toilet as a sort of welfare plan for the construction business without actually constructing anything in the process (unlike public works). Easy or hard? We know which option the d-bag in this video chose. Good find. |

Re: Two Girls Stabbed Viciously, Rival Gang Retaliation
On closer inspection, after enhancing the audio and stabilising the footage, it seems like he's being careful to primarily attack their windpipes, and only incidentally severing the jugular of the second victim (there's no obvious pulsing of the blood, the way I'd expect if he'd severed the carotid)? Could seem like he's intentionally leaving them to drown in their own blood, rather than "just" stabbing them to death, especially given how methodical he is about it. Or maybe my anatomy is just rusty. |

Re: Two Girls Stabbed Viciously, Rival Gang Retaliation
No, I don’t think they were drugged. I think they were exhausted. Their brains were probably overloaded knowing their fate for hours before the stabbing began. The brain can’t deal with unlimited stress for long periods of time as we see time and time again on this site. Those who don’t fight back have most likely been under intense stress for many hours or sleep deprived for days. This is generally why prisoners on death row don’t fight when being strapped to electric chairs or other kill devices. I doubt any are well rested and able to fight. Those who are jumped suddenly or captured for short times fight. The same stress is seen in boxers after a couple of rounds of fighting, even when no real damage is done from punches. The stress of being toe to toe with another fighter is mentally exhausting.
