I've been told that white is a color used by the Kurds as a way to signal comrades to an attack. But this seems silly as it goes against international conventions and invites misconceptions. Still, it could give a momentary advantage to attackers, at least if the tactic hadn't been used in that area previously. All in all, I tend to doubt the theory, although the guy who told me this is from the Mideast (not Turkish).
