He saw a gun at 1:07, you see him jump and pull his hands up to cover his face in an instinctive reaction. The passenger is also nudging the driver's right arm with his left hand a couple of times. Driver turns back to face forward then decides to lunge at the guy.

Think it's a simple; pay attention to the road instead of the phone you moron. He didn't, so the passenger pulls out a gun and he tried to grab it and got shot multiple times.
