Rival gangs in this part of the world, (S'A' or Mexico), just seem to enjoy inflicting maximum suffering with minimum empathy! His crime was probably as trivial as selling a little Pot in rival gang "territory." The object, no doubt effectively achieved, was probably just to put the fear of god into the victims gang mates!
