India, A traffic constable, who was flung into the air and landed a 100 metres away after a car ran over him on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway, died at a hospital on yesterday.

V. K. (34), had fractures in both legs and was treated with 32 stitches at a hospital in the city. He had been in the intensive care unit for nearly 36 hours, when he succumbed to his injuries.

The hit-and-run was reported on Friday evening, when he was manning the IPEM College exit point on the expressway. He was managing traffic on an entry point for DME but was shifted to the exit route due to high density of vehicles and VIP movement on the expressway.

A CCTV video of the crash shows a white Ertiga switching from the right-most lane to the other end and hitting the constable, who is flung into the air.

The Ertiga driver did not stop after the collision.

Cops said they have arrested the driver, Vineet and his cousin Sumit, who was in the co-driver's seat.

Vineet, appears to have been speeding when he ran over the constable. The two car occupants had been drinking liquor before driving.

During interrogation, the accused told police they were coming from Haryana and going towards their home in Ghaziabad. Vineet was driving the car, and due to high speed, he didn't see the cop on DME.

But Vipin's brother Akshay, who is also a traffic police cop in Ghaziabad, alleged that the CCTV clip makes it clear the crash was deliberate.

In his complaint filed at the Vijay Nagar police station, Akshay has urged police to investigate the accident as a murder case.

The accused has a criminal history. I am sure that something happened between my brother and the accused, Akshay said.

V.K, is survived by his wife and three children, twins (8) and a 10-year-old son. He joined UP Police in 2016 and was posted in Ghaziabad ever since.

traffic cop weirdly jumped the wrong way to try to avoid collusion, but i guess when that fight or flight instinct kicks in, you kinda just do what you do regardless of how much sense it makes.
