Re: Tractor Driver Dies After Machine Overturns Whilst Cutting Down Trees
A guy that used to cut my hair, in his real life, had retired from the Caterpillar Co, so we got to talking about bulldozers, and I asked him why they never have seatbelts. He told me that when they roll over, if the driver is strapped in, the quick snap as it goes over will break the neck of the operator every time. (I had just bought a 1929 Caterpillar 10, which is the tiniest bulldozer that Caterpillar ever made. It is as cute as a button. My wife saw it when it came off the semi, and called it a "Puppy Bulldozer". It is smaller than my Model T Ford.) and he told me how to work on a hill, which is STRAIGHT UP AND DOWN THE HILL ONLY. He told me to NEVER try and cross the side of a hill, or work on an angle. When I got the 1929 manuals for it, Caterpillar warns of the same thing. |
