Those posts are there for that reason. To stop vehicles on the road from plowing into people. Unfortunately, there were no posts at the place he entered on the sidewalk. Damn shame, she was just visiting NYC and got plowed for no reason. She was very pretty.

The girl dies at 1:08. You can see she falls onto her back and then gets plowed. Her clothing matches the corpse clothes.
