A shootout around a Shopping Center in Brazil frightened pedestrians and shoppers last Friday night around 9 pm. Two criminals tried to steal a motorcycle behind the mall trying to escape.

Police passed by at that time and started to shoot at them. During the confrontation two innocent people were shot, being a 63 year old female pedestrian and a mall employee, T.D.C.M, 31 who was leaving from work. One of the perpetrators died and the other was shot in the leg during the shooting.

The employee of a mall store was rescued by the SAMU but died during surgery.

In all, four people were shot during the shooting: two pedestrians and two criminals, one of whom died on the scene. According to the State Department of Health, Thiago went through surgery, but could not resist. Already a 63-year-old woman who was hit in the leg, received care and was released. One of the suspects, who was also shot, was treated and then sent to the Niterói Homicide Police Station, where he is being held.

Police seized a pistol, a radio transmitter, a grenade and a cap.

I know everyone is panicking over guns, but I think if everyone in Brazil armed themselves, the crime rate would drop dramatically. Same in Mexico.
