The chairman of a local district, 56-year-old Raul A.B., and two local councillors, 65-year-old Jose L. and 54-year-old Marvin C., were shot dead during a flag-raising ceremony at the town hall. Another official was shot and critically injured.

The police identified the shooter as a 50-year-old ex-village policeman, Ariel, who shot himself dead.

Ariel failed to report for work prior to the incident.

Probers are also verifying reports that the suspect went to the treasury section of the barangay hall to claim his P6,000 allowance.

However, the amount was allegedly not released, which reportedly irked Ariel.

According to the interview of the victim's families on social media, the suspect is no longer allegedly working as a bodyguard but the barangay chairman is still fully paid. It has reached the point that according to them it had to be deducted from the salary because it is no longer fully employee of the barangay. Authorities think retaliation is the suspect's possible motive.
