Re: Thomas Joe Vandermark Shot and Killed by Police Officer
If the suspect had a gun, why would he have to approach the cop to shoot him? i wonder if th dead guy was so angry and scared that he didnt realize what he was doing and just wanted to talk to the cop?

Re: Thomas Joe Vandermark Shot and Killed by Police Officer
That's not at all what any police force is trained to do. You shoot to neutralize a threat by any means necessary. A leg isn't going to neutralize someone, even if you could hit a tiny target, in motion, in a high stress situation. There are people who spend their entire lives doing skill shooting competitions that have a hard time with small targets in motion - there's a reason those are relegated to trick shots. There's a reason why snipers for hostage situations are rare, unbelievably skilled and almost unanimously, literally do no other cop-related jobs, because all they do is train moving targets at various distances. Most departments - even large city ones - don't have HAVE someone like that, they have to wait on state/FBI assistance. Furthermore, a miss trying to hit legs results in several problems: ~Not hitting a target and they come at you, and get shots off anyway ~Not hitting a target and they come at an innocent bystander, killing them or taking them hostage ~Not hitting a target, but the cop hits a bystander ~Hitting a target and making no damn difference - there are guys with 4-5 shots in their legs still running to/from cops - barring shattering a bone (hence that tiny target), even a femoral artery hit can leave someone mobile for many vital seconds This ain't Hollywood, young boob. You can't shoot a leg and stop a threat and you can't shoot a weapon out of someone's hands. |
