You know this is not about the crime, they live a shitty life in poverty and when they find a reason to release all that built up anger, they go for it. Police generally turn the blind eye so those poor assholes stay calm and do not rebel against people who they actually must.

I guess if all you own of any use/value are pots then it's like someone stole everything you have. And I'm pretty sure the guy knew what would happen if he was caught. It doesn't justify the violence but I guess it's explainable.
