Thai police opened fire on a suspect hiding in a swamp area during a resisted arrest.
During a patrol in the neighborhoods of Surat Thani on Sunday officers came across a man who quarreled with a young girl.
When the police approached the conflicting pair, the attacker pulled out a grenade and threatened to blow it up, stole a pickup that was parked nearby, fled the scene and tried to hide in a swamp area.
As a result, the police tried to talk to him to get him out of the overgrown pond. By then he was surrounded by about 50 officers. The talks lasted for more than an hour, but in the end he agreed to give up so the police ordered him to keep his hands up and in plain sight.
However, getting to the shore, the man pulled out a grenade again tried to pull the pin. At this point the police opened fire.
The suspect, who at the time was under the influence of amphetamine, died on the spot. They found out it was a 39-year-old member of a major drug gang who was wanted by police.
