A 48-year-old kindergarten teacher, Pailin T., was shot dead by her husband, Police Sub-Lieutenant Thatsaphong T., on school grounds. Thatsaphong had parked in front of the school and approached Pailin with a firearm in his hand.

Pailin was shot once near her left ear, and collapsed and died at the scene. A 9mm shell casing was found near the body. Approximately 44 students were inside the kindergarten when Pailin was shot dead in the corridor.

According to relatives, the couple had been experiencing relationship issues and jealousy-related conflicts for some time. They discussed separating and dividing their marital assets, but Thatsaphong refused to agree. He had also discussed with his colleagues about stress and a desire for an early retirement. Days before Pailin was murdered, the couple had organized the wedding of their son.

Thatsaphong drove back to his house, and called his son, threatening self-harm. Police, and relatives including his son, attempted to persuade Thatsaphong to surrender himself. At time of last report, Thatsaphong has not surrendered, with his son requesting police not enter the house and to allow him the chance to negotiate with his father personally, but there are apparently still signs of life in the house.

He ultimately agreed to surrender after 18 hours, on Thursday morning, after personal pleas from his son, who is also a police officer and had traveled from southern Thailand to assist authorities.
