I do believe that's what they call "crumple zones". Except they don't work when you're T-boned by 10 tonnes of speeding semi. At least it was a quick death.

They were or at least 100 feet behind the box truck and accelerated up to the left of the box truck quick - most likely spun the back tires on accel - looked like they almost lost it on the approach once maybe twice
